#325-365 Things that Go!

Today is Good Friday, and I will leave it to others to portray matters of a religious nature. Apart from all the shops and Pubs and Clubs being closed, one of the Queensland ways of celebrating, the day is the start of the (Brisbane) Sandgate to Gladstone Yacht Race which starts at 11.00am on Good Friday every year.

Sandgate being just on the other side of Bramble Bay, this gives the people of Redcliffe and the thousands who come to enjoy the "Redcliffe Festival of Sail" (the website is HERE) a perfect view of the first hour or so of the race, and an opportunity for taking photographs The people of Sandgate call it the Bluewater Festival and their website is HERE. I will have a few shots to show from todays shoot in coming weeks but wanted to post this one today as it is a multipurpose shot, (I like them best!).

The theme for once is legitimate (on two or three levels I think), firstly all of the vessels are going by water and most of them are going to Gladstone (lets hope they all make it safely) and the third point is that they are going with so many modes of power. Mostly sail I admit, (It is the Festival of Sail), others appear to be using power, and later you will see one that looks like a motor vessel but seems to be using sail. Still others are going by Paddle the largish vessel is a paddle steamer that is usually plying the Brisbane River but is going to attempt the open sea at least up to Gladstone, there is a canoe that you can just see the tip of, to the left (or should that be starboard) but considering the direction he is heading in I doubt he is headed for Gladstone.

The second main thing is the "Schooner South Passage" (The website is HERE) pictured above, this is a special case. This is the second year that WomenRace4 have undertaken to sail in this event under the auspices of the Redkite organization which supports children through cancer (The website is HERE). The vessel is a Gaff rigged Schooner of 100feet, which is primarily used to give young people the opportunity to experience life at sea under sail, not power, and all that entails. But for the period of this cruise 23 Novice female sailors will crew the vessel. I think this is a wonderful undertaking and deserves all the exposure it can get. to that end I am providing a link to the local Newspaper article of the story, the paper is The Courier mail and the link is HERE

All kinds of wonderful ways to go, great shot. i wouldn't think a paddle wheeler to like open water much.

This is a wonderful photo. Very busy and lots to take in. Best seen enlarged. Color is wonderful, as is the textures of the many different boats and their compositions. One can almost feel the excitement in the air - anticipation of the race plus the comradeship of visiting with old friends and making new ones. Lots of fun in store.
