#232-365 The Wild Side

This is a shot taken, back during this years Redcliffe Show. Aside from joining the Army at 17, I always considered the people who manned rides in sideshow alley, at all those shows that pop up all around Australia (and for all I know your country too), who I refer to as Carneys (in my head a respectful badge) worn by carnival workers who really keep themselves alive through dint of their own sweat, effort and wits, are people who live on the Wild Side.

This young lad, working like a demon to keep the traffic flowing the right way at this Dodge-em Car rink is a prime example, he was all over the place, seemed to be able to anticipate when a blockage was about to occur and get there just in time to keep them all flowing, I guessed him 16 to 20 years old, didn't smile much - he was working, but his grace and adjility would have done a ballerina proud. His grace showed that he was at home on the Wild Side, but he wasn't keeping it to himself, check out the look of the woman whose car he is re-directing, she is there for a second right on the Wild Side. And the child next to her is terrified by this side of Mum, that he has necer seen before.

Another amusing commentary and a very clever take on this theme! Brave kid!

I always dreamed about how it would be to live like that when I was a kid.. Doesnt seem to be that glorious now when I am (supposed to be)a grown up, I guess one knows to much about the hard parts nowadays ;o)

I think the little boy is scared because now he knows why dad won't let her drive the car LOL! Great picture and creative use of the theme! Fun!

Bumper cars! What memories this brought back. Love that you caught the mom and kid...what a story.

Interesting interpretation! So the mother is wild because she's driving or because the worker is getting fresh? I really can't tell. LOL
Very clever!!!

Terrific fun foto!! I love the expression on their faces. Forgive me for not being able to comment on everything that I've missed here on your site, but in general, they are always great, colorful, and then there is that wonderful narrative of yours. Hope to get back onto the groove some time in the near future. Trying to catch up.
