This shot was taken about 50 yards from where I got the shot for Private, but facing the other direction. However the circumstances as you can see were a tad different. It was taken at 10.46 P.M. the temperature had plummeted to a staggering 12%C (53.6%F) a chill factor of 1 (A light wafting breeze) About as harsh as it gets here in Paradise.The centre foreground and buildings to the right are all part of the Redcliffe foreshore, and I am happy with the clarity and detail I achieved. To the far left however the thin strip of lights are the Brisbane Harbour complex which I would say would be a good 20-25 Miles away, that area is never dark. I was slightly tempted to up the blacks to show the fact that it was heading for midnight, but loved the array of stars visible in the sky, far too much, to mess about with it. For those interested, my settings were:
ISO - 200
F-stop - f/5.6
Foc/L - 18mm
Exposure time - 30 seconds.
(It didn't look as spectacular when I was standing there in a light shirt, trousers and shivering away to bring you this art, I Have Suffered for My Art TOO! ha ha ha!

I noticed something. There is a "halo" over the city light reflection. I took some sunset photos earlier this week and they had the same thing. I was wondering if that is part of the way the camera is constructed to get an arch like that. On my photo, it rather looks like a rainbow without the various colors. What do you think?

What camera do you have Ron? My Canon point and shoot has a SCN option on the dial. You can take Night shots and Fireworks shots and get some cool effects without having to stand for 30 seconds and you don't need a tripod (I have IS too). I don't have that function on my new Canon D50.

This is a fabulous shot! You didn't hand hold for 30 seconds, did you? I haven't done ANY night shots like this and now I'm motivated to give it a try. Just have to figure out an appropriate location.
