#051-365 City Lights

This shot was taken about 50 yards from where I got the shot for Private, but facing the other direction. However the circumstances as you can see were a tad different. It was taken at 10.46 P.M. the temperature had plummeted to a staggering 12%C (53.6%F) a chill factor of 1 (A light wafting breeze) About as harsh as it gets here in Paradise.

The centre foreground and buildings to the right are all part of the Redcliffe foreshore, and I am happy with the clarity and detail I achieved. To the far left however the thin strip of lights are the Brisbane Harbour complex which I would say would be a good 20-25 Miles away, that area is never dark. I was slightly tempted to up the blacks to show the fact that it was heading for midnight, but loved the array of stars visible in the sky, far too much, to mess about with it. For those interested, my settings were:
ISO - 200
F-stop - f/5.6
Foc/L - 18mm
Exposure time - 30 seconds.

(It didn't look as spectacular when I was standing there in a light shirt, trousers and shivering away to bring you this art, I Have Suffered for My Art TOO! ha ha ha!

Great bright lights! The stars in the sky are a nice touch. I'm glad you didn't play with the night sky and lose them.

Wow - great shot, especially now that you tell us you were shivering from the cold - nice job at holding it steady in the low light while quaking! Love those stars!

Marvelous image, Ron! Shivers don't show in your shot! I hope you went somewhere afterward and drank something ;) to warm yourself!

Getting to comment late means all the good remarks are already taken. Just know you did really great with this shot.

I noticed something. There is a "halo" over the city light reflection. I took some sunset photos earlier this week and they had the same thing. I was wondering if that is part of the way the camera is constructed to get an arch like that. On my photo, it rather looks like a rainbow without the various colors. What do you think?

Ron this is one of my favorite shots. I love the stars and the reflections. Just beautiful.
Freezing??!! That's shirt sleeve weather.

The varied colors in the reflections are just great! Good shot.

What camera do you have Ron? My Canon point and shoot has a SCN option on the dial. You can take Night shots and Fireworks shots and get some cool effects without having to stand for 30 seconds and you don't need a tripod (I have IS too). I don't have that function on my new Canon D50.

Great reflections on the water - I haven't attempted a night shot yet. Guess I'll have to try!

Ron,
First off- nice shot! I'm sorry, but 53'F is hardy cold, I'm surprised from a former Army guy. Ah, you know I'm only kidding....

All of the above, Ron. This is a spectacular piece of art. You need to frame this and put it on the wall.

Very dramatic shot, Ron! The color is great and those stars are amazing.

Now, about that bitterly cold weather....53 degrees??? We're going to have to toughen you up m'dear.

This is a fabulous shot! You didn't hand hold for 30 seconds, did you? I haven't done ANY night shots like this and now I'm motivated to give it a try. Just have to figure out an appropriate location.

Really lovely shot, I love the glowing colors. If was was that cold maybe your steadiness was from being frozen.

This is beautiful! Amazing you could get such a sharp shot without a tri-pod! Love it!

Nice shot and great city.

I do like this a lot - 30 seconds is a looong time, even with tripod - do you have a remote for the shutter release?
